ALTAY MBTs on Production Line Make Appearance in SSB Visit TurDef
Two ALTAY MBTs at BMC’s Ankara facilities, undergoing production, were spotted during Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries Haluk Görgün’s visit to BMC.
Two hulls and turrets are seen from an image taken during the visit, as well as a 120 mm L55 smoothbore gun to be integrated as the main armament.
ALTAY’s first delivery of three units in T1 configuration is scheduled within the remainder of 2025. The first deliveries for the Turkish Land Forces will include features such as ERA, camouflage net, AKKOR APS, and SARP RCWS.
Initial deliveries are scheduled to be made with the Republic of Korean engine and transmission until BMC Power’s BATU engine with its transmission is ready for the serial production phase.
For the later phases, aside from the indigenous engine and potential improvements in armour, ALTAY is planned to get new capabilities such as guided missiles, UAV/UGV deployment, unmanned turret, and a new calibre main gun (For example: 130 mm smoothbore or 140 mm smoothbore).
According to previous declarations, BMC is expected to deliver 11 Altay’s in 2026, 41 in 2027 and 30 in 2028 making 85 tanks in total. The T2 deliveries will start in 2028.
