ASELSAN's ALP 500-G Radar to Detect from 750 km Range
ASELSAN disclosed on its website that the instrumented range of the upcoming ALP 500-G SEİRS fixed early warning radar is 750 km.
The ALP 500-G, a follow-up to the ALP 300-G, will have a significantly longer range and endurance due to its operation on a fixed site.
The radar being fixed on a site allows for regular power generation greater than that of a truck.
In addition to ALP 300-G's target set of aircraft and missiles, ALP 500-G will be capable of tracking ballistic targets as a secondary capability.
The radar's instrumented range is 750 km, and its adjustable altitude is up to 45 km.
Aside from better detection performance, ALP 500-G is being developed with countermeasures against anti-radiation missiles based on the classification of such missiles regularly employed against radars. This might involve the automated use of decoys or toggles upon detecting an anti-radiation missile heading towards the radar installation.
Other early warning radars in the works are ALP 400-G and ALP 600-G YİRAD high altitude early warning radar.
The mobile ALP 400-G is considered a long-range searching radar operating at lower frequencies (or longer wavelengths) than ALP 300-G. Low frequency provides advantages against targets with RCS reduction measures but is considerably more inaccurate than higher frequencies, requiring extra measures to eliminate the said flaw.
Fixed ALP 600-G will be a significant component in Early Warning and Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) capabilities, with a range beyond that of ALP 500-G. The radar will likely work in conjunction with the Siper Product 3 long-range air defence missile developed to intercept ballistic missiles.
