Defense ministers from the United Kingdom and Germany will sign a sweeping bilateral defense pact between Europe's two biggest military spenders on Wednesday. It covers everything from joint missile development to extra exercises in the Baltics, hosting rights for submarine-hunting planes in Scotland along with a major artillery factory deal for Düsseldorf-based weapons-maker Rheinmetall. The Trinity House Agreement, named after the London building that houses the body in charge of lighthouses, and where the ministers will meet, will mean "unprecedented levels of new cooperation with the German Armed Forces and industry," Defense Secretary John Healey said in a statement ahead of signing the deal.
