Baykar Works on a Larger Akıncı UCAV with TEI Engines
Baykar CEO Selçuk Bayraktar stated that the firm is working on a larger AKINCI UCAV with engines from TEI.
Selçuk Bayraktar, regarding the magnified AKINCI variant, has made the following statement in his interview with Mehmet Akif Ersoy from Habertürk: "We have TEI's helicopter engine (TS1400) when it comes to jet engines. But Turkiye needs multiple types of jet (gas turbine) engines. One of them will be for AKINCI. If we were to put TEI's engine on AKINCI, we'd need a bigger one, and we are working on it. AKINCI's engines have 750 hp while TEI's TS1400 provides more than 1400 hp.".
TEI is likely working on a 1400 hp-class turboprop engine from its TS1400 turboshaft engine's core, and Baykar is working on a larger AKINCI UCAV to accommodate the said engine in tandem.
Considering the payload of AKINCI B and C variants are above 1.5 tonnes, the "XL AKINCI" might have a multi-tonne armament load with almost twice as strong engines.
This means being able to carry multiple cruise missiles or a larger count of guided bombs.
Alternatively, the stronger engines open room for more potent radars and electronic warfare systems as it generates more electracity. Thus, new possibilities for UAV SOJ and UAV-borne early warning are also present.
