Libyan AKINCI UCAVs Spotted In Service
One of Baykar's AKINCI UCAVs was spotted in Libya during Prime Minister Abulhamid Dibeybe's visit. Dibabibah previously released a statement hinting at the use of AKINCI in clearing Khalifa Haftar's forces and other illegal parties in the North African country.
The AKINCI in the picture appears to be the A variant with AI-450T turboshaft engines, each providing a maximum of 450 hp power. This would mark another confirmation of one of the nine users of Baykar's UCAV, which can carry more than tenfold the more widespread TB2-armed UAV at 1.5+ tonnes.
Other confirmed active users or customers of Bayraktar AKINCI are Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Burkina Faso, and Ethiopia. Libya has been using Bayraktar TB2 in its military operations, and the addition of AKINCI to the roster marks an increase in firepower, with the capability to use Mk-82 GPBs fitted with guidance kits.
What munitions Libya acquired remains unknown, but MAM-series munitions and guided GPBs are likely due to other users having acquired said munitions. New payloads are being fitted on AKINCI, with the notable ones being MAM-L's TV-guided variant, MAM-T IIR, and seeker-fitted versions of the UAV-122 aero-ballistic missile. Additionally, ASELSAN is working on the UAV-SOJ configuration of AKINCI with wingtip EW pods and ASOJ-234U under-fuselage EW pod with both ESM and EA functions.
