Dazu am Rande die Frage eines Laien: Ist ESSM Bk.2 abwärtskompatibel in der Form, dass ein Schiff mit eingerüsteten Bk.2 auch ohne weiteres Bk.1-FKs verschießen kann oder gibt es da Hardware-Unterschiede beim Starter o.ä.?

Gemäß der US Navy:

The full capability of the ESSM Block 2 is not available without an update to the Aegis Weapon System that remains in development. The legacy combat system can employ the ESSM Block 2 but initializes the weapon as an ESSM Block 1 missile.

Although initialized as an ESSM Block 1 missile, the ESSM Block 2 functions as an ESSM Block 2 but without some enhancements.

The Navy will evaluate this functional compatibility mode in the first phase (Phase 1) of IOT&E.

Da der ESSM Block 2 n.m.K. im gleichen Container wie der Block 1 geliefert wird, sollte auch der Starter abwärtskompatibel sein. Der ESSM Block 2 wird dann vermutlich als ESSM Block 1 erkannt und ist abwärtskompatibel, d.h. aber man kann nicht das volle Potential nutzen. Anders herum stellt das kein Problem dar.

der Platz und Gewichtsreserven für zwei weitere MK41 sind von Anfang an bei der F123 berücksichtigt

Stimmt, deswegen hat man diese 2 x 8 Zellen aus Gewichtsgründen auch direkt im Bau weggelassen Die F123 war von Anfang an übergewichtig, wenn man diesen vorhandenen Raum nutzen will, muss die Fregatte erstmal ordentlich abspecken... da ist mir ein aktives TASS lieber. Immerhin ist die F123 eine ASW-Fregatte, da braucht es keinen SM-2.
