Korea, Turkey Agree to Cooperate in Space Technology

Turkey’s Air Force chief Halil Ibrahim Firtina paid a courtesy call on Oh Myung, Minister of Science and Technology, Monday (March 8) to discuss ways to promote bilateral cooperation in science and technology areas.
At the meeting, Oh and Firtina agreed that Korea and Turkey would pursue long-term, comprehensive cooperation in more diverse areas including information technology (IT) and space industries based on their long-standing friendship.
As a country in a fledgling stage of space technology, Turkey embarked on a space development project in earnest this year and is currently seeking a foreign partner for cooperation in joint satellite development, technology transfer and training. Turkey is positively considering partnership with Korea that has secured core space technologies such as satellites and science rockets in a relatively short period of time.
General Firtinia came to Korea on March 6 for a five-day visit and met a group of Korean military leaders including Defense Minister Cho Young-kil and his Korean counterpart Gen. Lee Han-ho.
