Nach den aktuellen Schätzungen, so langsam werden die Zahlen etwas klarer, kamen wohl rund 300 Israelis ums Leben, fast 1.900 wurden verletzt. Und es scheint auch so, dass von den Todesopfern nur 15 bis vielleicht 20 Prozent wirklich Soldaten oder Polizisten sind. D. h. überwiegend handelt es sich bei den Opfern um Zivilisten.

Davon sind sicherlich auch viele den anfänglichen Raketenangriffen zum Opfer gefallen, aber es gibt auch mittlerweile Hinweise darauf, dass in einigen Dörfern nahe der Grenze dutzende Personen kaltblütig ermordet wurden, manche Aufzeichnungen weisen ganz klar auf Massaker und gezielte Erschießungen hin.

Wie auch immer: Hier kann es nur eine entschlossene Reaktion geben.
