According to information published by Tass on November 9, 2021, the service life of the Pacific Fleet’s Project 949A ‘Antey’ multirole nuclear-powered submarine Irkutsk will be extended by at least ten years after its repairs and upgrade at the Zvezda Ship Repair Plant in Russia’s Far East, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the ministry’s conference call. The submarine was laid down on 8 May 1985 at Sevmash, Severodvinsk. Launched on 27 December 1987 and commissioned on 30 December 1988. On 13 April 1993, she has renamed Irkutsk. The Project 949A nuclear-powered submarine has a length of 155 meters, a displacement of 24,000 tons, a depth of submersion of 600 meters, and an underwater speed of 32 knots. Its crew totals 107. The Project 949A nuclear-powered submarine is armed with six torpedo tubes and 24 launchers to fire Granit cruise missiles with a range of about 500 kilometers (311 miles).
