Putin verstärkt Militär in der Arktis

Russlands Präsident Wladimir Putin hat eine erhöhte Militärpräsenz in der Arktis angeordnet. Er wolle, dass die russischen Streitkräfte "besondere Aufmerksamkeit" auf die Errichtung von Infrastruktur und die Stationierung militärischer Einheiten verwendeten, sagte Putin bei einem im Fernsehen übertragenen Treffen im Moskauer Verteidigungsministerium.

Die kanadische Regierung hatte zuvor bei den Vereinten Nationen einen Antrag eingereicht, die gesamte Kontinentalplatte bis zum Nordpol als kanadisches Gebiet anzuerkennen. [...] Putin hatte im November einen Plan verkündet, einen Militärstützpunkt in der Arktis wiederzueröffnen, von dem aus der Schiffsverkehr in der immer besser befahrbaren Nordostpassage überwacht werden soll.
