CHINA (Territorial Disputes)
With Japan: The Japanese coast guard spotted three Chinese coast guard ships sailing around the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea just outside territorial waters … the day before, four Chinese coast guard vessels had entered Japanese waters near the islands for an hour.
(rmks: Chinese coast guard patrols have become more frequent, with incursions now nearly every day but no confrontation at sea thus far. The increasing Chinese aggressiveness, however, likely will lead to escalation in the area.)
