THE KOREAS

South Korean and US (naval) forces kicked off 11-day exercise “Key Resolve” … “one-on-one wargames” … coinciding with separate US-South Korean field exercise “Foal Eagle 2013” that began on 01 Mar and will run through 30 Apr.

North Korea continues “large-scale drills” (rmks: no details given) involving army, navy and air force … ROK MoD: none of these activities as of yet considered “suspicious”.

North Korea has cut the “hot line” phone connection to the South and declared the armistice “invalid” … reported “civil defence preparations” indicate national readiness now at a semi-war level, one level below full combat readiness.
