RUSSIA (Mediterranean Deployment)
The “largest naval exercises in the past few decades” in the Mediterranean and Black Sea has officially begun … involve task forces from Black Sea, Northern and Baltic fleets (rmks: Pacific Fleet no longer mentioned), strategic bombers, tactical aircraft, air defence units, paratroopers and naval infantry … “focus on interoperability of task forces from several fleets while on a mission in a far-off maritime zone” … continue until 29 January with over 60 serials, including anti-submarine warfare missions, missile and artillery firing, simulated beach landing and convoy escort missions.
For the record: MoD statement mentions the following surface combatants as participants: MOSKVA, SMETLIVIY, YAROSLAV MUDRIY, SARATOV, AZOV, KALININGRAD, ALEXANDER SHABALIN.
