Bomb Attacks in Iraq Leave 26 Dead
BAGHDAD—Insurgents unleashed a string of bomb attacks across Iraq on Thursday, mainly targeting Shiite Muslim pilgrims, killing at least 26 people and extending a deadly wave of bloodshed into a second day.
The violence that has left nearly 60 dead since Wednesday morning followed nearly two weeks of relative calm and threatened to fuel rising tensions among Iraq's ethnic and sectarian groups.
Shiite pilgrims are a favorite target for Sunni insurgents who seek to undermine the country's Shiite-led government and provoke sectarian fighting.

The protests Friday in Iraq's second-largest city mirrored demonstrations by the Sunni minority across Iraq, the Voice of Russia reported. They followed a series of bombings and shootings in Iraq Thursday targeting Shiites and security forces that killed 23 people and wounded 113, police said.
