Officials invited to Majlis to discuss proposal on Hormuz Strait closure

TEHRAN, July 8 (MNA) – A number of the country’s political and military officials have been invited to attend a session of the Majlis to discuss the proposal that calls for the Strait of Hormuz to be blocked in response to the sanctions imposed on the country, MP Mehdi Mousavinejad announced on Sunday.

Mousavinejad, who has endorsed the proposal, said that Saeed Jalili, who is the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and a number of officials from the Foreign Ministry and Joint Chiefs of Staff have been invited.

Iran will make judicious decision on Strait of Hormuz: general

TEHRAN, July 7 (MNA) -- The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces has said that the country will make a wise decision as to whether to block the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Major General Hassan Firouzabadi made the remarks in an interview with the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency in Tehran on Friday in reply to a question about the proposal that the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee put forward on July 1, which calls for the Strait of Hormuz to be blocked to prevent the passage of tankers that carry oil for the countries that have imposed sanctions on Iran.

Firouzabadi said, “I, as a senior military commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran, say that we have a (contingency) plan to block the Strait of Hormuz because military men should have plans in regard to all issues, and the Strait of Hormuz is the world’s fourth or fifth (most) strategic strait, which affects everything in the world.”
