A total of 177 legislators voted in favor of Larijani's chairmanship, while his rival Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel gained 89 votes out of the 266 ballots, IRNA reported on Tuesday.

Larijani, who headed the eighth Majlis during the past four years, had already been elected acting speaker of the ninth Majlis.

Iran, Armenia reach agreement on building Meghri power plant

According to the agreement, the hydroelectric power plant, which will straddle the border river, will have the capacity to produce 130 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

Construction of the power plant will begin simultaneously in Armenia’s Meghri and Iran's Qarachilar regions.

‘Iran, Iraq to expand oil cooperation’
A senior Iranian official says Iran and Iraq have agreed to expand cooperation in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry.
