Azarakhsh is based on the P.530 cobra (YF-17), an aircraft designed to replace F-5 E during the period of the Shah Reza Pahlavi's friendship with Northrop president Tom Jones (LOL).
The huge "Iranian Aircraft Industries" site at Mehrabad was designed for the manufacture of the P.530, among other projects, and indigenous aircraft development is based at the site
