Türkiye plans to deliver a significant shipment of military equipment — including armored cars, drones, artillery, missiles, and air-defense systems — to Syria within the next several weeks, according to a report by Bloomberg citing Turkish officials familiar with the plan.
The equipment will be deployed primarily in northern Syria, avoiding Israel’s sphere of influence in the southwest, the officials said. Ankara’s presidency declined to comment publicly on the matter, while Syria’s information ministry has not responded to requests for confirmation.
The initiative marks a major step in Ankara’s strategy to stabilize its southern border by backing Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former insurgent who overthrew Bashar al-Assad last year. Türkiye sees Sharaa’s government as a counterweight to Kurdish groups that have long controlled parts of northern Syria.
