The Bamako Expo Fair (BAMEX’25) opened Tuesday in Mali’s capital, showcasing the capabilities of Türkiye’s defense industry in an event exclusively featuring Turkish companies.

Organized under the leadership of Türkiye’s Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the fair runs through Nov. 14 at the Bamako Fair and Exhibition Center. Major Turkish defense firms such as Baykar, Aselsan, Roketsan, MKE, STM, Kalekalip, Sarsilmaz, Akdas Firearms, and others are participating.

Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga addressed the opening ceremony, highlighting Africa’s growing security and geopolitical challenges. He said terrorism on the continent has evolved, no longer confined to conventional weapons but increasingly utilizing artificial intelligence, encrypted networks, and digital platforms.

Türkiye Leads EDEX 2025 as Regional Ties Stabilise TurDef
Türkiye will participate in EDEX 2025, held in Cairo between 1–4 December, as the largest exhibiting nation with 81 companies. The scale of Türkiye’s presence comes at a time when relations with Egypt—once strained for years—have entered a period of sustained normalisation. Political tensions that began during the Arab Spring and deepened through a significant portion of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s tenure had largely frozen defence-industry visibility on both sides. The extended period of relaxation has led to visible changes in regional participation through EDEX 2025 which serves as the most evident example.

The exhibitor list shows Egypt maintains the second position with 46 companies while China holds third place with 30 companies. The United States holds fourth position with 23 firms while Republic of Korea stands fifth with 20 firms.

The exhibitor distribution at Cairo shows defence market presence becoming more diverse while Asia-based companies gain greater influence. The profile of Türkiye’s exhibitors spans small and medium-sized manufacturers, major shipyards, and multiple foundation-owned defence companies. Land systems, naval platforms, aerospace, electronics, and mission-system providers collectively form one of the broadest national footprints in the fair.
