Die japanische Küstenwache plant wohl, die größten bekannten Küstenschutzschiffe zu bauen. Nach verschiedenen Meldungen geht es um Schiffe, die bis zu 200 m lang und 30.000 ts schwer sein könnten. In gewisser Weise gab es ja in Japan immer schon eine gewisse Neigung zum maritimen Gigantismus (gut möglich aber auch, dass für diese Schiffe noch stillschweigend andere Aufgabenfelder vorgesehen sind)...

On August 27, 2024, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) announced its budget request for the fiscal year 2025. Included in this request was ¥3.43 billion to cover part of the cost for building a "Multi-Purpose Patrol Vessel,"(MPPV) which will be the largest vessel for the JCG. [...]
The MPPV is an exceptionally large patrol vessel, measuring 199 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 30,000 tons. It can accommodate up to 1,000 people inside and has space for numerous vehicles. There will be a large flight deck, aft of the ship, capable of operating two helicopters simultaneously, along with a hangar that can house an additional three helicopters.
