Standoff Jamming (SOJ) platforms are high-value assets that suppress adversary air defence radars, disrupt command and control cycles, and interfere with communications by conducting deception and noise jamming from long ranges without entering hostile airspace. By doing so, they create corridors through which friendly air forces can penetrate enemy airspace. The effective employment of these platforms has become an undeniable reality of modern warfare, acting as a force multiplier and generating powerful asymmetric effects.

Turkey’s new electronic warfare jet appears to be moving closer to operational status, with by far the clearest imagery yet of the aircraft emerging in an anniversary video for the Turkish Air Force. The platform is loosely similar to Western standoff electronic attack platforms such as the U.S. Air Force’s EA-37B Compass Call and once again underscores the widening spectrum of defense aerospace products, crewed and uncrewed, as well as weapons and sensors, that Turkey is now producing.

A very brief clip of the HAVA SOJ (Airborne Standoff Jammer) appears in a video published today on the official X account of the Turkish Ministry of Defense. The video was prepared to mark the 115th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Air Force and features various other types, either operated by the service or under development. The footage is embedded below, with the HAVA SOJ appearing at around the 1:39 mark.

Over the past decades, Türkiye has devoted significant efforts and economic resources to expanding its defense industry, as well as increasing its degree of autonomy. One of the most visible results is the ÖZGÜR Program, through which the Turkish Air Force’s Block 30 F-16s are receiving new locally developed equipment and capabilities, among which ASELSAN’s new MURAD AESA radar stands out.

For this reason, one of the most important developments for the current year is, without a doubt, the completion of the program with regard to the modernization of the F-16s. Deliveries of the upgraded fighters began in 2023, and 2026 was set as the date for the delivery of the last aircraft of this batch.

New Details on Ex-RAF C-130J-30s for Turkish Air Force TurDef (Credit: Marshall Website)
Türkiye’s 12 ex-RAF C-130J-30s are undergoing deep maintenance, centre wing box work and configuration changes ahead of delivery to the Turkish Air Force.

TurDef has learned new details about the 12 former Royal Air Force C-130J-30 transport aircraft being prepared for the Turkish Air Force.

The aircraft are undergoing comprehensive maintenance and inspection work at Marshall Aerospace’s facilities in Cambridge before being delivered in a baseline configuration that will allow Türkiye to integrate its own mission systems.

Marshall is a Lockheed Martin-authorised Heavy Maintenance Centre for the C-130J and the manufacturer’s first approved Centre of Excellence for C-130 centre wing box replacements. The company previously carried out similar structural work on aircraft operated by the RAF.

Deliveries are expected to take place over three to four years, with the first aircraft planned to arrive by the end of 2026.

The C-130J-30 is the stretched-fuselage variant of the C-130J. Its fuselage is approximately 4.6 metres longer than that of the baseline aircraft, increasing cargo volume and providing space for additional pallets, personnel or mission equipment.
