Israel-headquartered UVision developed HERO Multi-Canister Launcher (MCL), adapted for launching all types of HERO Loitering Munition Systems from a single platform.

The new launch system will deploy loitering munitions, sometimes referred to as suicide drones, against various ground targets.

As noted by the company, UVision Air Ltd. is for the first time introducing a launch capability for different HERO systems, from a single launcher during this year’s AUSA Annual Meeting in Washington DC.

“Giving field forces operational flexibility, the innovative capability enables them to choose and launch the most suitable system, depending on the nature of the mission and target – from the Hero-30 for smaller ‘surgical’ attacks, through the Hero-120 for medium-sized and armored targets, up to the Hero-400 for long-range and fortified targets,” the company said in a news release.

The Bayraktar Akıncı, which boasts a number of features not seen on any other type of UCAV produced anywhere before.

One of these features is the ability to launch high-precision cruise missiles at targets located 275+km away. This novel capability was made possible through the integration of the SOM series of cruise missiles developed by the Turkish TÜBİTAK Defense Industries Research and Development Institute. Due to size and weight limitations, only one cruise missile can be carried by the Akıncı under its single fuselage-mounted hardpoint. Still, this is a 100% increase over the operational cruise missile-carrying capabilities of any other drone type in the world.

The capability to carry SOM missiles is far from the Akıncı's only ace up its sleeve. Arguably the most innovative aspect of the Akıncı will be its prospective ability to use air-to-air missiles, consisting of the indigenous Bozdoğan IR-guided AAM, the Gökdoğan BVRAAM and the Sungur short-range AAM (itself a Turkish derivative of the FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS). The Akıncı's AESA radar enables it to autonomously pick out its targets at great range, and engage enemy slow-flying aircraft, helicopters and other drones at ranges as far as 100km away.

Its impressive air-to-air combat capabilities set aside, the Akıncı's expansive arsenal of air-to-ground weaponry will likely be its main (armament related) selling point. In this regard, the ability to carry several variants of the SOM family of cruise missiles designed to be used against enemy fortifications, ships or any other target that requires a precision hit with a 230kg heavy explosive warhead could end up being a real game changer. Their carriage doesn't only do much to expand on the capabilities of the UCAV fleet of its operator, but also frees up jet fighters for air combat tasks. This feat will be especially valuable for Turkey after its exclusion from the Join Strike Fighter programme.

Loitering munitions combines the capabilities of a drone and a lethal missile by searching, identifying, attacking, and destroying targets, and performing battle damage assessment. The new weapon system is able to take out enemy high-value and relocatable targets.

A drone attack in Syria has been carried out against US troops- but American forces miraculously survived the encounter without a scratch.

The strike took place near the al-Tanf Garrison, where US troops are currently stationed as part of a security initiative.

US Central Command Capt. Bill Urban said the area “was subjected to a deliberate and coordinated attack.”

“Based on initial reports, the attack utilized both unmanned aerial systems and indirect fire,” Urban said. “All US personnel have been accounted for, and we are not aware of any injuries to US personnel at this time.”

Citing a report from volunteer Roman Donik, Mil.in.ua reported that Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 armed drones were used for the first time to destroy the enemy artillery that fired on the village of Granitne, after which the Russian-backed separatists announced the alleged liberation of the Armed Forces of the village of Staromaryivka.

Bayraktar TB2 managed to find, track and destroy 122mm D-30 howitzer south of the occupied Boykivske (formerly called Telmanovo). Howitzer had been responsible for the attacks against the village of Granitne.
