BAGHDAD (AP) — Al-Qaida's branch in Iraq claimed responsibility Monday for a double bombing that targeted a counterterrorism unit in Baghdad last month.
The al-Qaida statement claimed 70 people were killed in the July 31 attack on the security headquarters. Government and security officials put the death toll for all the violence that hit the capital that day at 21.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi security forces arrested the spokesman of the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO also known as the MEK, PMOI and NCR) in Iraq, local media reports said.

Eigentlich sollte die gesamte MKO schon lange nach Deutschland, Frankreich oder die USA abgeschoben werden. Das ist bis heute aber nicht passiert.

Zahlreiche Tote bei Terrorserie

Da müssten sie aber erst die Iraner überbieten, und die haben seit 2004 wohl über 3.500 Menschen hingerichtet, alleine letztes Jahr wohl um die 600 bis 700...aber das ist im allgemeinen Gejubel über echte und vermeintliche iranische Erfolge wohl kaum mehr von Bedeutung...

At least eight people have been killed and 24 others injured in a multiple car bomb attack and a mortar attack in Baghdad. On Tuesday morning, six people were killed and 14 others injured in the Iraqi capital when three car bombs went off simultaneously in the northwestern neighborhood of Shula, Reuters reported.
In addition, the police said multiple mortar rounds landed in the northern district of Chikok, killing two people and injuring 10 others.
Bombings and shootings have recently increased across Iraq, and many believe that the attacks are being carried out to undermine the central government.

Nicht nur, dass der Irak selbst noch weit davon entfernt ist, ein vergleichsweise ruhiges Land zu werden, droht die Gefahr, dass der Syrien-Konflikt, der ja auch auf den gemischtreligiösen Libanon immer stärker durchschlägt ob des Zwists zwischen Sunniten und Schiiten und (auch) der Intervention der Hisbollah beim Nachbarn, auch den Irak auf diese Weise in den Konflikt hineinzieht. Sektierer aus dem Irak, Sunniten wie Schiiten, scheinen verstärkt in Syrien mitzumischen - und man kann sich ausmalen, was das bedeutet, wenn diese in den immer noch instabilen Irak zurückkehren...
