Zitat:Pakistan to Test Cruise Missile within a Month

Pakistan Times Monitoring Report

ISLAMABAD: Quite in line with Pakistan’s stated policy of maintaining minimum nuclear deterrence profile, Pakistan is all set to achieve a major breakthrough in missile technology by conducting test of its first cruise missile in end September, said a story, carried by a capital-based daily.

It is believed that this cruise missile will cater to the needs of Pakistan Navy in order to significantly enhance its long-range strike abilities.

The Range

It is believed that range of this missile can be upto 300km (within the MTCR range) and can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. It is designed to fly at extremely low altitudes at high speeds and is piloted over an evasive route by several mission tailored guidance systems.

It will have the capability to hit high value or heavily guarded targets. One of its special features is that this essentially anti-ship missile can be launched from ground, ship, submarine or air.

The eventual addition of this strategic missile is a logical follow- up of the goals set by Pakistan as country’s nuclear philosophy.

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Sept 9: Delivery of 20 Super Mashak aircraft to Saudi Arabia will commence towards the end of this year. This was stated by Maj-Gen Syed Ali Hamid, director-general of the Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) , at a news conference held to announce the programme and objectives of the four-day extravaganza of military hardware, Ideas 2004.

Gen Hamid did not give the total amount of the deal with Saudi Arabia which also includes maintenance clause, but said it would go a long way in boosting export of the aircraft manufactured by the PAC Kamra.

The PAC Kamra has already sold 10 of these aircraft to Oman and five to Iran. A deal for the sale of five such aircraft to a South African firm will be signed during the Ideas 2004 exhibition.

Zitat:Pak seeks niche in global arms market

General Syed Ali Hamid
Karachi, Sept. 8 (Reuters): Pakistan, striving to make a niche for itself in the global arms market, is touting locally-built tanks and other weapons during a defence exhibition that opens here next week, a top army official said.

“Our big-ticket items, which would take our sales up by maybe a couple of hundred million dollars or more, are just coming on line,” Major General Syed Ali Hamid, director general of the Defence Export Promotion Organisation, said today.

He said the indigenously-manufactured Al-Khalid tank, which has been inducted in the Pakistan army this year, is the prime product for sale at the “IDEAS 2004” arms exhibition opening in Karachi next Tuesday.

In an effort to meet its burgeoning defence imports, Pakistan plans to double its defence exports in the near future, a leading defence weekly reported on Wednesday.

Pakistan's strategy is to focus on building the Khalid and Zarrar main battle tanks and Mushshak trainer aircraft and earn enough from exporting them to match its defence imports, the Jane's Defence Weekly said in its latest issue quoting country's top defence industry officials.

A South African firm has agreed to purchase four more trainer aircraft built by Pakistan after receiving delivery of one such plane here, officials said Sept. 17.

Zitat:UAE SEEKS PAKISTAN BMS

LONDON [MENL] -- The United Arab Emirates been discussing a major project that would deliver a Pakistani battle management system to Abu Dhabi's ground forces.

Industry sources said the UAE Army and Islamabad have been negotiating to acquire a Pakistani BMS that would link main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers and combat vehicles in Abu Dhabi's military. The sources said the system would be capable of forming a network comprised of a range of Western platforms in the UAE land forces and would not require the purchase of Pakistani military platforms.

The Pakistani system was identified as the Integrated Battlefield Management System. The network was meant to link armored forces and provide them with situational awareness and identity friend, foe capability.

The sources said the Pakistani system was not as advanced as Western networks and could not be regarded as network-centric warfare. The system was said to employ Very High and Ultra High Frequency radio communications, with each vehicle capable of serving as a relay.

By MUNIR AHMAD

Associated Press Writer

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan successfully test-fired its longest-range missile on Saturday, a military spokesman said.

The test of the Shaheen II missile, capable of carrying nuclear warheads and hitting targets deep inside neighboring India, was not expected to hurt peace efforts between the nuclear rivals. Both countries routinely conduct missile tests and inform each other in advance.

With a range of 1,250 miles, the missiles could also reach Iran, China and Saudi Arabia.
