The Chinese government has appropriated Euro 1.2 billion to the maritime province of Hainan … for infrastructure on disputed islands (rmks: Spratly Archipelago) in the South China Sea … plans include construction of airstrips, piers and other facilities incl. military fortifications.
(rmks: establishing infrastructure on uninhabited islands already in the past has served to assert territorial claims)

The Philippines has asked China to explain the deployment of a patrol ship to disputed territory in the South China Sea … also requested China to specify the limits of the territory it will “guard”, however, with no response thus far.
