The delivery of 12 Su30MK2 to Chinese navy has been under way since February, a military source based in Moscow confirmed to Kanwa.
24 SU30MK2s (the name used in the contract) are specially designed for Chinese Navy. Other 12 SU30MK2 will be delivered in June 2004, the source disclosed. China had already received first and second batch of Su30MKK with a total number of 76 which have been deployed in 3rd fighter division based in Wuhu Anhui province and 18th fighter division in Changsha Hunan province and Tactical Training Center. With the Su30MK2 delivery, Chinese navy is also supposed to receive the Kh31A supersonic anti-ship missile which has 70km fire range.

China and Russia are actively negotiating on the 4th batch SU30MK3 fighters now. Technologically, these SU30MK3 fighters are expected to undergo some major upgrading. The alternative plan includes outfitting ZHUK-MSE multi-functional radar system and adopting the MFI 10-6M multi-functional color displays designed by Ramenskoye PKB which has much higher definition. Currently, SU30MKK are equipped with four MFI 10-5 multi-functional displays. The communication system for Su30MK3 may also be changed from SU30MKK's standard communication complex (SCC) to modularized TsIMSS-E, both of which are products of POLYOT. The former is composed of 7 components, while the latter has only one compressed part. "Of course, all will be decided depending on China's own budget," the source added. (Kanwa news)
